Complex Composition

As much as I enjoyed doing this assignment, I do wish I had not chosen the lamp and the hat…. WOW… talk about time-consuming!

It took about ten tries to get the polygon shape of the lamp to look right.  Looking back on it, I realize the bottom of the left glass panel in the lamp needs to sweep up more.

I also minimized evidence of the background by simply ignoring it… I placed a few shadows to indicate a surface for the objects to sit on, but other than that, my main objective was to create the sort of bleaching light coming in from the left side (I had set this montage up next to a window).

Many drawing students fail to use, or simply ignore, the all-powerful eraser.  It does what nothing else can do: draw light.
